Nine days and counting until we all get together for the Oktoberfest Party! Last weekend I headed up north to finalize the planning with my sister and mom as much as we could. Until then I was just nervous; I really want it to be relaxed and not really about Shane and me being engaged at all. But now I’m excited, because its going to be so much fun! We got the majority of the planning out of the way, so here’s the latest:
The Menu
Chili
Beef and noodles
Mashed potatoes
Homemade bread platter (pumpkin pie spice, zucchini, and cinnamon)
Veggie platter
Fruit platter
Creamy white hot chocolate
Apple cider
Pumpkin cheesecake bars
Old Fashioned Soft Pumpkin Cookies
Cake
The Events
Since we’re starting at noon, we’ll most likely start with the meal. After that, there might be a “mixer” game, since I want to make sure everyone has a chance to meet everyone else (as that is the point of the event). Then we will have games (board games and card games; bring your favorite one!) and paint and/or decorate small pumpkins and gourds! Hopefully the weather will hold up later next week so we can enjoy the hayrides that Matt has been working on for a few months now. Weather.com currently shows rain showers for the area Thursday-Saturday, but luckily this is Indiana and that might change! Apparently, even if it is clear but has rained recently, the hayrides are a no-go.
Can anyone teach me the anti-rain dance?
Other Things
Though Weather.com is also saying it will be in the low 60′s, the Wineland’s house tends to get rather chilly in the colder months. You might want to bring a sweater, especially if you’re like me and get cold easily.
Bring your cameras!!! I’ll have mine, and I’m sure my mom and sister will have theirs. But I want as many candid pics as possible. We’ll be adding an album to the site as soon after the party as we can so everyone can enjoy them, so I’ll want copies of any pics you take!
No gifts! Seriously. In case you missed it in the invitation, other blog posts, or Engagement Party page, the whole purpose of this thing is to get our families together and have some fun. One of my friends said something about how, even though I keep saying this, people will still bring gifts. And I thought about it, and I’m sure I probably would bring a gift if someone close to me was having an engagement party because I care about them and can’t come empty handed. But if you’re anything like me, resist the urge!
Now that I’m getting my part of the menu together in my grocery list, I’m getting even more excited! I can’t wait until I have a full day of baking next week! Lol. I’m sure that will change once it actually comes.
